PULA


Pula is the largest city in Istria county in Croatia, lies at southwest area of Istrian peninsula in well-protected bay, its known for its mild climate, calm sea and unspoiled nature, city has a long tradition of winemaking, fishing, shipbuilding and tourism and also have a transit port, human remains dating back one milion years before Christ was found in cave Šandalja near Pula, town was famous by its greek passengers and seasailors, a mian industrial branches are shipbuilding, tourisam, processing industry, traffic, food industry and construction industry, there are two museums one is Archaeological Museum of Istria and another is the Historical Museum of Istria, two library University Library in Pula and City Library, the most important theatrical institution is Istrian National Theatre - City Theatre of Pula, among others theaters are MILK-Istrian small puppet theater and Theatre Dr. Defiance, Cinema Valli, Pula Film Festival, seasonally is open Open air Cinema at the Kaštel, four culturals clubs OKUD Istra, KUD Matko Brajša Rašan, KUD Uljanik and KUD Lino Mariani, Pulas majorettes, brass band and choir Zaro, community centre Karlo Rojc, Pula is most famous with its ancient Roman buildings, the best known ancient Roman building is amphitheatar from first century known as Arena, the other important and well-preserved ancient Roman structures are triumphal arch, the Arch of Sergius and Temple of Rome and Augustus, Porta Gemina, Gate of Hercules the oldest monument of roman architecture, Augustian Forum, Small Roman Theatre and Great Roman Theatre, medieval and renaissance buildings, the Byzantine chapel of St Maria Formosa, basilica St Mark, monastery and church of St Francis, cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Orthodox church of St Nicholas, monastery and church of St Anthony, Pula fortifications, the coastal waters offer beatiful beaches, fishing, diving to the wreck of the ancient Roman galleys and warship from WW1 and sailing to unspoiled coves and islands some small some large.
